Utegen Batyr Utegululy was born in lower reaches of Shu river, the participant of battles against Zunghar in the 18th century. In 1740 he battled with his group as a part of Tole Bi’s army. In 1757 he participated in protection of Semey and Yamyshev fortresses from the Zhunghar attack. In 18th century legends and songs about heroic acts of hero transferred from generation to generation. Famous poets such as Kusen, Tilemis, Maykot devoted their works to him. The most known work is the poem “Utegen Batyr” by Zhambyl Zhabayev. The mausoleum was built in 1999 to hero’s 300-year anniversary.
