Kostobe is identified with Dzhamukat (Khamukat) medieval city founded by Bukhara’s sogdiants, who moved to Turkestan.Information about Dzhamukat is met in sources of X century authors such as a geographer al-Makdisi and Nershakhi (the work “Tarikh-and-Bukhara”). As a result of scientific- research works of modern scientists, Kostobe is one of the largest ancient settlements of Talas valley.

Kulan ancient settlement on the Great Silk Way was included into the list of the World heritage on June 25, 2014 in 38 session of UNESCO which was held in Doha of Qatar State.
